The Classic Rock Cares press page described a touring concert designed to raise money for the John Entwistle Foundation. The notice is marked as archival, since all of its events took place long ago.
The format
The show was built around a single backing band of experienced players, led by drummer Steve Luongo of the John Entwistle Band. Because one band accompanied everyone, each guest vocalist could step up and perform only their best-known songs.
The running order, as described, went like this:
- Joe Lynn Turner, formerly of Deep Purple and Rainbow, sang material from those groups.
- Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, played guitar and sang his band’s hits.
- The closing set brought together Brian Johnson and Cliff Williams of AC/DC with Luongo and guitarist Mark Hitt, who performed AC/DC favourites plus their own new songs.
- After roughly two hours of music, everyone joined for an encore of “Highway to Hell”.
Scale and purpose
The notice said the tour would play only fifteen dates in a single month, July. Money raised was meant to fund the foundation’s goal of giving children free access to music education and instruments through public libraries.
About the foundation
The notice explained that the foundation was named for the late bassist of The Who. Beyond education, it said the organisation had raised money for disaster relief, including contributions to the Red Cross and a Florida hurricane relief fund. The foundation described itself as a United States tax-exempt charity under section 501(c)(3); that statement is the archived organisation’s own and has not been independently verified here.
Listed dates
Two stops were visible in the archived snapshot: an early July night at a Las Vegas hotel venue and a mid-July evening in an Atlantic City ballroom. These are shown only as historical examples.
